Sing’s journey at Avenue Botany: Building confidence and strength

April 1, 2026
Sing is a valued member of Avenue Botany’s Social and Hub Management teams, where he spends his time building friendships, learning new skills, and trying new activities.

Sing is the kind of person whose energy is contagious and his enthusiasm tends to radiate through the Avenue hub. He embraces his work in Hub Management with pride, and he thrives in the social program, where his willingness to try new activities inspires his fellow team members.

Fighting fit

One of Sing’s favourite parts of Social is the exercise classes. During sessions he enjoys activities like boxing, push-ups, ball slams, rope pulls and bicycle crunches. Strength training is also a highlight – especially shoulder presses with dumbbells.

Fitness is important to Sing, as it supports one of his personal goals of getting stronger for kung fu. Through regular exercise at Avenue Social, he says, “I’ve been getting stronger, especially in my biceps and legs.”

Sing has also been learning new emotional regulation strategies to help him stay calm and focused during activities.  “The support staff help me take big breaths. They are also very funny, they make me laugh,” said Sing.

Friendship, independence and pride

Sing’s involvement with Avenue Social has also helped him to grow his independence, which has in turn become a source of pride for Sing. ”I’m proud of making choices – like where the team will eat lunch. Bondi Junction is my favourite. I also like to make purchases and decisions when I am at the games store.”

Developing rich friendships is another important part of Sing’s experience at Avenue Social. He enjoys spending his time with people who share his interests. “I love that Aiden likes Transformers, super heroes and anime – we have similar interests. Trudi is also a good friend, we work together a lot.”

Outside of Avenue Social, Sing enjoys using his phone, playing games, watching Cartoon Network and doing puzzles. He also likes playing soccer and spending time gardening.

When asked what he would say to someone thinking about joining Avenue Social, Sing had an enthusiastic message:

“Sure, please join us!”
